TRIP SUMMARY

Day One
You start this adventure from Bluecliffs beach. From there you take the Wild South Coast to Port Craig, taking in the abundance of wildlife and scenery.

You have two choices of travel, the beach at low tide 5 - 6 hours, the track 6 - 7 hours. Both are well signposted and maintained by the Department of Conservation.

Accommodation for the first night is a 20 bunk old school house.

Day Two
From Port Craig the track follows an old log tram which is easy going. After two hours you come to the mighty Percyburn viaduct, providing a breathtaking view and two more viaducts Edwinburn and Francisburn. The track continues to the Wairaurahiri River where the Wairaurahiri Hut (and the Waitutu Lodge) is found.

This day trip is easy going and takes 4 - 5 hours, from there starts the Jet Boat trip of a lifetime. Two hours of solid thirlls, grade 3 whitewater rapids and rocks. The bush is virgin, the scenery magnificent.

You will travel the full 27 kilometre length of the Wairaurahiri River to Lake Hauroko and onto the jetty where transport can be provided back to Otautau, Tuatapere or your vehicle at Blue Cliffs car park.

Number of Days: 2
First Days Walking: 5 - 6 hours (beach), 6 - 7 hours (inland track)
Second Days Walking: 4 - 5 hours
Time in jet boat: 1-2 hours

PRICING

Minimum of four people needed for trip to go.
Boat can carry up to 11 people per trip, but can cater for up to 22 people per day.

Children under 12yrs half price

Storage for packs on jet boat

Wet weather gear top & bottom if needed.

CONDITIONS

This is an extreme adventure into mountainous and wild coastal conditions where the weather can change very rapidly.
Minimum of 4 seats paid for boat to operate. 

OPTION 2 - WAITUTU LODGE OVERNIGHT

TRIP SUMMARY

Includes jet boating across Lake Hauroko and down the Wairaurahiri River. Stay at the Waitutu Lodge for the night and return the next day. Longer stays can be arranged.
